With a new head coach and a healthy Dak Prescott, the 2025 Dallas Cowboys should be fun to watch in 2025. Get your popcorn ready for these games in particular.
Week 1 at Philadelphia Eagles
All eyes will be on South Philadelphia on Thursday, Sept. 4, as the Super Bowl champion Eagles raise their banner to open the 2025 NFL season.
Dallas went 0-2 against Philadelphia last year but did so without their starting quarterback. Prescott went 3-5 in eight starts before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury against the Atlanta Falcons last season.
Prescott has a 9-4 career record against Philadelphia but is 3-3 in games played at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles outscored the Cowboys 75-13 last year and are 3-4 against them since head coach Nick Sirianni took over in 2022.
After spending the last three seasons as an offensive assistant with Dallas, new head coach Brian Schottenheimer will look to even the score against the Eagles’ top-ranked defense and NFL rushing leader Saquon Barkley.
Week 11 at Las Vegas Raiders
To the delight of fans, most early mock drafts had former Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty landing with his hometown Cowboys in 2025. With leading rusher Rico Dowdle signing with the Carolina Panthers and little on the roster to take his place, Jeanty seemed an obvious choice.
But after rushing for a league-worst 79.8 yards per game in 2024, the Las Vegas Raiders called his number six spots ahead of the Cowboys in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Dallas addressed the position in the fifth round by taking Texas running back Jaydon Blue. This "Monday Night Football" matchup on Nov. 17 gives the team a first-hand account of the player who led the FBS with 2,497 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2024 and finished second to Colorado CB/WR Travis Hunter for the Heisman Trophy.
Week 17 at Washington Commanders
If Philadelphia fails to repeat as NFC East champions, this Christmas Day game could wrap up the division for the winner. The Cowboys would be just two years removed from their 2023 title, but the Commanders haven’t won the division since 2020, when a 7-9 record did the trick.
Thanks to an Offensive Rookie of the Year performance from quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Commanders made it to the NFC Championship game in 2024. This year, they hope to go even further with new additions on both sides of the ball.
On defense, the team signed defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw to a three-year, $45M contract and took Ole Miss cornerback Trey Amos in the second round of the draft.
The offensive line received a pair of upgrades with former Texan Laremy Tunsil at left tackle and first-round pick Josh Conerly Jr. at right tackle. The team also traded for former 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel to alleviate some of the burden for No. 1 receiver Terry McLaurin.
The Cowboys and Commanders split last year’s season series, although both teams rested their starters for what turned out to be a meaningless regular-season finale. Assuming that’s not the case in 2025, this game could be the best of the holiday's three games.
