Three potential trade destinations for Rams RB Cam Akers

Since the relationship between the Los Angeles Rams and running back Cam Akers continues to deteriorate, they have reportedly placed him on the trade block. Here are three potential destinations:

1. Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings run game has regressed after the team released four-time Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook during offseason. Through two games, Minnesota has only logged 34.5 rushing yards per game, the worst mark in the NFL. Adding an experienced RB such as Akers could improve the anemic rushing attack.

Now in his fourth season with Los Angeles, the former second-round pick has rushed for 1,443 yards and 10 TDs on 360 carries. While his production won't replace a player of Cook's caliber, it's solid. He's another back the Vikings could rely on, helping Minnesota restore its offensive balance.

2. Baltimore Ravens
Ravens RB1 J.K. Dobbins suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon tear in Week 1. QB Lamar Jackson is still a threat in the rushing game, but he's battled durability issues over the past two seasons, missing 10 games. Baltimore doesn't want to put its best player in situations that make him more susceptible to injury, so acquiring another RB makes sense.

Against the Bengals, RBs Gus Edwards and Justice Hill looked solid, combining for 103 rushing yards and a TD in a 27-24 victory. However, it doesn't hurt to add Akers, as he rushed for a career-high 786 yards in 15 games last season. Consequently, he would make a solid ground game more potent.

3. New York Giants
Saquon Barkley suffered an ankle injury in a 31-28 victory against the Cardinals and will undergo more tests on Monday. If the Pro Bowler misses multiple games, the Giants should consider trading for Akers since backup RB Matt Breida, 28, has only rushed for 345 yards over the past two seasons.

Akers could also serve as a solid complement to Barkley and ensure he stays fresh. The second overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft has a concerning injury history. A torn ACL sidelined him during the 2020 season, and he missed four games with an ankle injury in 2021. Adding another back who eases his workload is the right move.
