Eagles fans obviously want the team’s draft picks to play well, but expect Philadelphia to pull even harder for these rookies in 2024.
CB Cooper DeJean
DeJean wasn’t supposed to reach the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but once he did, Philadelphia quickly traded a pair of second-round picks and a fifth-round selection to get him. Expectations for the former All-American are high but could go even higher if OTAs are any indication.
According to Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia, DeJean looked impressive while working as the first-team nickel cornerback in 7-on-7s and as an outside cornerback with the second team.
DeJean was named Big Ten Defensive Back and Big Ten Punt Returner of the Year last season despite missing his final four games with a leg injury. He and wide receiver Britain Covey handled punts exclusively in recent practices, so one way or another, a versatile player like DeJean should see plenty of regular-season action.
DE/OLB Jalyx Hunt
Philadelphia loves an underdog and who better to fill that role than Hunt, a converted safety still learning to play defensive end? Hunt put on 50 pounds to switch positions and became the first player in school history to be selected in the NFL Draft.
That’s cause for celebration as Hunt showed on draft day. Minutes after speaking with team owner Jeffrey Lurie, Hunt dove into a pool, still wearing his draft-day suit, with family and friends. Philadelphia also loves over-the-top gestures.
“He’s got freaky tools in his body. He's an explosive guy. If you watch his best plays, he's doing things that are unique. He can bend. He can close. He can finish. He's long…we think we can really find something with him”

Hunt is considered a developmental project, expected to mix in with pass-rushers like Brandon Graham, Bryce Huff and Nolan Smith. But Smith played just 16 percent of defensive snaps in 2023, and Huff played 42 percent with the Jets.
In other words, Philadelphia’s project player could see more playing time than people realize. The third-round rookie got lots of work as a pass-rusher during OTA practices but his experience at safety should help him with pass coverage right away.
WR Johnny Wilson
At 6-foot-6 and 231 pounds, Wilson will be the tallest wide receiver in the NFL, if he makes the team. As a sixth-round pick, he’s no lock to make the roster, but if he does, Eagles fans should be looking for No. 89 in the red zone.
With nearly 36-inch arms, a 37-inch vertical jump and 4.52 speed, Wilson could be a problem for smaller cornerbacks in jump-ball situations. He’d also look amazing lined up next to DeVonta Smith, who’s generously listed at six feet and 170 pounds.
Rookie of the Year Awards probably aren’t in the cards for DeJean, Hunt or Wilson, but any can win the hearts of Eagles fans with a strong 2024.
