Despite starting in just six games this season, Steelers quarterback Justin Fields looked much improved compared to his previous years in the league. Not only did he lead Pittsburgh to a 4-2 record as a starter, but he racked up 10 total touchdowns (five passing, five rushing) while turning the ball over only two times.
He wasn't perfect for Pittsburgh, but he likely played well enough to earn a starting job for another team. Now, entering the offseason, Fields will be hitting free agency with some potential suitors looking to give him a noteworthy deal.
Three teams in particular could be more interested in signing Fields than others given their current quarterback situations. Still just 25, Fields has plenty of time to carve out a good NFL career and any of these three teams could be the one to give him the opportunity he needs.
1. Indianapolis Colts
With all of Anthony Richardson's struggles to start his career, the Colts could potentially be looking into other options at quarterback. Current backup Joe Flacco is hitting free agency, and with $52 million to spend, Fields could be their guy.
He would likely start the season off the bench in favor of Richardson, but if the latter continues to struggle, Fields could be named the starter in no time. With a sturdy offensive line and weapons like Michael Pittman Jr. and Jonathan Taylor, there is high upside for Fields in Indianapolis.
Most importantly, Fields is an incredibly mobile quarterback who boasts a strong throwing arm, just like Richardson. This means that if they sign Fields, the playbook would not have to adjust much to fit his play style.
2. New York Giants
There may not be a team in the NFL with a worse quarterback situation than the Giants. The team learned how valuable having a good backup QB can be this season, so signing Fields regardless evin if they draft Sanders or Ward could be an ideal situation for both sides.
Say the Giants draft one of the top QBs in this year's draft and sign Fields, they can start their rookie on day one, then bench said rookie if he struggles for Fields, setting him up with a chance to succeed. On the other hand, they can also start Fields, giving a rookie a chance to learn from the sidelines.
This would both give Fields a chance to be a starter once more and also potentially set the Giants up with a good quarterback room for the first time since Eli Manning retired.
3. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders were once in position to hold a top-three pick in this year's NFL Draft. However, after a couple of meaningless wins to end the season, they dropped all the way to six. Unless they trade up, Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are out of the picture, meaning they need to look elsewhere to find a new quarterback to run the show in 2025.
Unlike with the Colts, Fields would almost definitely be the immediate starter for the Raiders. The situation won't be as good, but a chance to immediately start paired with playing alongside Brock Bowers could be enough to sway Fields to sign with Las Vegas.
