Three-time Super Bowl champion offers bold take on Commanders rookie QB Jayden Daniels

Is Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels the best rookie QB ever?

ESPN analyst Tedy Bruschi — a former linebacker who won three Super Bowls in 13 seasons with the New England Patriots — certainly thinks so.

"The rookie rules don't apply," Bruschi said Monday on "Get Up." "They don't apply to this guy. I've never seen something like this. Thirteen years as a player, 16 years as an analyst here, this is the best rookie QB I've seen."

Daniels, 24, didn't look like a rookie in his postseason debut Sunday in the NFC wild-card round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In the 23-20 victory over Tampa Bay, Daniels completed 24-of-35 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns, posting a stellar 80.4 QBR. He also led a 10-play, 51-yard drive late in the fourth quarter, which set up kicker Zane Gonzalez's winning 37-yard field goal.

According to the Commanders' website, Daniels joined Joe Flacco, Mark Sanchez and Russell Wilson as the only rookie QBs to win their first road playoff start.

Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin insists Daniels' impressive feats should no longer be a surprise.

"This is what we've been doing all year," McLaurin said postgame, via The Athletic's Ben Standig. "This is what (Jayden) has been doing all year."

Per Pro Football Reference, the 2024 No. 2 overall pick tied for the league's second-most fourth-quarter comebacks (four in 17 starts) during the regular season.

Washington needs Daniels to keep delivering in the clutch in its divisional-round matchup with the Detroit Lions on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. ESPN Analytics gives Detroit a 72.2% chance to win its home game.

Even if Daniels doesn't pull off the upset, the QB still has one of the best rookie seasons in recent memory.
