The 2025 NFL Week One football brings the age-old fierce rivalry to TV sets as the Dallas Cowboys prepare to face off against the defending champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. Dallas, now under the coaching of rookie Brian Schottenheimer, will be looking to cause an upset.

Dak Prescott returns as the starting quarterback of the Cowboys after missing the latter half due to a leg injury. CeeDee Lamb has a new partner in the front lines in the form of George Pickens. However, the team from Dallas will field a team without star pass rusher Micah Parsons. After a long contract standoff, the Cowboys traded Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.

The Eagles retained the majority of players from the ring-winning roster. Super Bowl MVP quarterback Jalen Hurts, NFL OPOY Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Zack Baun are set to defend their crown in their backyard, the Lincoln Financial Field.

Similar to the Cowboys, the Eagles are also missing a few key players. Veteran Brandon Graham retired in the offseason, while there’s a huge question mark looming over offensive guard Landon Dickerson as he fights a back issue.

Why can the Dallas Cowboys win?

It’s difficult to predict an outcome between the Eagles and the Cowboys. Vegas did not favor the team from Dallas to win, even before the Parsons trade. The odds plummeted after the All-Pro linebacker left the building.

Regardless of the handicap, quarterback Prescott is ready to fight until the bitter end. The Pro Bowler enjoys a 6-1 record against his greatest foes. Prescott averaged 283.1 passing yards, with 14 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Lamb, in nine games against the Eagles, logged 50 catches for 674 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Why can the Philadelphia Eagles win?

The Eagles are under the spotlight, as every NFL team is determined to bring its A-game when facing this formidable NFC East rival. General Manager Howie Roseman has skillfully retained the top talent, resulting in a roster that has remained consistently strong since last year.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts faced ample scrutiny for relying too much on the running game in 2024. Yet, Hurts turned out to be the star of the show in New Orleans. He orchestrated a 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs to snatch his first ring.

Barkley, meanwhile, shattered rushing records in the regular season. He led the league in every rushing category, en route to featuring on the cover of Madden 26. The fans are also eager to see the new offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo’s bag of tricks. Patullo was hired after Kellen Moore left to coach the New Orleans Saints.
