The Titans tight end room is undergoing so renovation this season, and I'm not sure the fanbase realized it quite yet.
This is the full tight end edition of an ongoing article series, breaking down the Titans projected 53-man roster one position at a time. Here's what we've covered so far, in case you've missed it:
In this installment, we'll lay out what might be the biggest surprise of a position group on this roster...
Cuts: Josh Whyle, Drake Dabney
Chig Okonkwo's future beyond 2025 is unclear. He's been a steady producer for the Titans on the stat sheet, but has his ups and downs on a game-to-game basis that leaves you feeling like he hasn't quite arrived. Is this the year he does it? At the link below, we dive into the similarities and differences between Okonkwo and the last "will they, won't they?" tight end decision the Tennessee Titans had to make. Oh, and could Chig be the player Cam Ward latches onto most in the passing game? There are a couple of reasons why that might not be a crazy prediction, and could lead to a career season just when Chig needs it most.
I was wrong about Josh Whyle a couple of months ago. The depth of this Titans tight end room is going to look different than many fans expect it to, and training camp is about to give us our first glimpse into why.
Rookie Gunnar Helm might finish this season as the Titans primary receiving target at this position. He has a ton of potential, and the coaching staff is not going to be conservative with working him into the rotation quickly. He's going to take over as the Titans starting Y tight end. Behind him, you may be surprised to see David Martin-Robinson and Thomas Odukoya on this roster projection instead of Josh Whyle. Click the link below to read about why that is in greater detail.
