The Tennessee Titans have had uncertainty at quarterback for a long time now. Even when Ryan Tannehill had a solid run from 2019 to 2021, the team had to have known that wasn't sustainable.
They now hold the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and many believe they could use that pick on a quarterback. However, it may be wiser to use that pick on a generational prospect like Colorado's Travis Hunter or Penn State's Abdul Carter instead of reaching on a quarterback.
The problem is that they would still need a quarterback. Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus believes there's one free agent who would help complete a "dream scenario" for the Titans.
Cameron dubbed Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold the perfect free agent signing for Tennessee.
"Head coach Brian Callahan benched Will Levis this past season after various bouts with questionable decision-making, and he could very well look at a veteran signal-caller to take up the mantle," Cameron wrote. "While the Titans could make a play for Kirk Cousins, Tennessee could also forego the trade route and grab the top-ranked passer of this free-agent cycle.
"Securing a quarterback in March would award the Titans with flexibility come draft day, allowing them to select a premier blue-chip prospect in the form of either Colorado’s Travis Hunter or Penn State’s Abdul Carter. It would also leave the door open for them to trade back in the round and acquire more draft assets."
Darnold won't be cheap but he's young enough to build around and allows the Titans to draft the best player available at No. 1. It also makes it easier for them to trade down and accumulate more picks.
