Titans Free Agent Signing Hit With Dreaded Label Before Playing Single Snap

The biggest splash new Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi made was signing former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Dan Moore to a four-year, $82 million contract. Moore has started in 66 games but he gave up 12 sacks last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

The initial signing of Moore was met with a lot of pushback and that's not changing. While the signing allows the Titans to move JC Latham to right tackle, overpaying Moore could come back to haunt them.

Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report went through and ranked the eight-worst free agent signings this offseason. He had Moore at the top of the list.

"Adding offensive line help in free agency can be a dangerous proposition," Davenport wrote. "There are essentially two types of linemen who hit the open market—aging veterans and middling talents who almost always wind up being overpaid.

"Offensive tackle Dan Moore definitely fits into that latter category. ... Moore is an average (at best) tackle who is now a top-10 player at the position in terms of average annual salary."

For now, the Moore contract doesn't look the best but it doesn't that it'll always be that way. He now gets to work with Bill Callahan, who is one of the top offensive line coaches in the NFL.

The Titans really need Moore to be a hit. They're likely drafting their quarterback of the future in the 2025 NFL Draft and need to keep him upright. If Moore struggles, the Titans are stuck paying a major prize for a mediocre player.
