Titans HC Mike Vrabel addresses possible DeAndre Hopkins pursuit

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel declined to confirm or deny on Wednesday his club could pursue former Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. 

"I think our focus has always been about the players who we have here. We’ll keep you updated as we continue to add players to the roster," Vrabel told reporters, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "Players become available at different times of the year — all the way up until the trade deadline. And then some of those veteran players that may be out there that sign throughout the offseason, training camp, and even into the season. So, player acquisition is always going to be something that you can try to add to your roster at different times." 

After Hopkins received his release from the Cardinals ahead of the holiday weekend, ESPN's Adam Schefter noted that the three-time First-Team All-Pro said during an appearance on the "I Am Athlete" podcast he'd like to play alongside Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Philadelphia Eagles starter Jalen Hurts, reigning Most Valuable Player Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers signal-caller Justin Herbert. 

There's zero indication Hopkins wishes to catch passes thrown by either Tennessee veteran Ryan Tannehill or 2023 second-round draft pick Will Levis. Simmons mentioned that "Tennessee’s roster does not necessarily look like it would attract Hopkins' interest," and NBC Sports' Peter King wrote for a column published on May 8 that it "feels like the Titans are a slow start from Will Levis playing by Nov. 1, selling (star running back) Derrick Henry by the trade deadline and building for 2024." 

NFL reporter Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post wrote for a piece shared on Wednesday that Hopkins could "take a discount" to chase a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs, Bills or Ravens. 

As for the Titans, they probably have no business overpaying for the receiver who turns 31 on June 6 as they prepare for Levis to take Tannehill's place in the lineup potentially as soon as this coming fall.
