Titans HC Robert Saleh addresses Jordan Elliott's release

Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Wednesday that the team released defensive lineman Jordan Elliott after he pulled a gun in the parking lot of the team facility last week.

The Titans announced Elliott's release Tuesday, citing an incident at the team facility on Oct. 15 in their statement. Austin Stanley of A to Z Sports Nashville first reported that the incident involved a firearm. Mike Garafolo of ESPN/NFL Media reported that the D-lineman went to his car to grab the gun after a dispute with offensive lineman JC Latham. Saleh said defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers helped defuse the tension.

The team notified the NFL of the incident, and it remains under review.

Saleh said the gun-related incident involving Elliott was more "a cry for help than a criminal act," and the defensive lineman is a "good man," even though he had a "terrible lapse in judgment."

Robert Saleh opens up on Jordan Elliott's release

"I think the organization and the NFL did an outstanding job with regards to pausing, which I think everyone needs to do in this situation is pause with regards to the news that Jordan had a gun," Saleh said. "The reason why I think the NFL and the organization did an outstanding job is because this is a man who's a father, a great husband. He's never committed a crime in his entire life, and he pulled a gun in the parking lot.

"And the first question I think everyone forgets to ask is why would a great man — a great father, a man who shows up on time every day, works his a— off every day, contributes the way he's supposed to contribute, is well liked in the locker room — why did he go off the rails and grab a gun?"

Per the Associated Press, Latham said he and Elliott "never had an argument leading up to it," and the incident was an "unfortunate episode."

"I will stand on the table for Jordan's character," Saleh said. "Unfortunately, rules are rules with regards to guns on property, and sometimes it's far greater than the knee-jerk reaction of kicking somebody when they're down."

Elliott, who signed a two-year, $8M deal with Tennessee this offseason after two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, had 11 tackles in five games for the Titans. Saleh, who served as the Niners' defensive coordinator in 2025, added he would vouch for the D-lineman if any teams were interested in signing him as a free agent.

"My message to the 31 other teams would be: If you need a hell of a run-stopping D-tackle that can help you on a playoff run, give me a call," Saleh said. "I'll tell you everything you need to know about him. He's a good man."
