Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon went all-in last offseason as he attempted to build a strong team around quarterback Will Levis. When Levis was not up to the task and the team fell on their face, Carthon lost his job and the new regime drafted Levis' replacement.
Ironically, one of the moves that Carthon made was trading for star Chiefs cornerback L'Jarius Sneed. Now, former Kansas City executive Mike Borgonzi is the Titans' general manager, so the two are reunited in Tennessee.
The problem with Sneed was that the team invested heavily in him before last season and he only played five games in 2024 due to injury.
While the offseason has provided mixed reports about Sneed's injury progress, head coach Brian Callahan recently cleared the air. He spoke to the media on Tuesday about Sneed's rehabilitation and where the $76 million corner stands before the season.
"(Sneed's) in a good spot, excited about where he's at," Callahan said. "It's both (the knee and quad). I mean the knee is something that you manage all the time. And then for the quad injury, it has taken some time to rehab from. So those things are still kind of ongoing, simultaneously. It's all part of the process for him. But he's in a great place, excited about where he's at. He's progressing as expected."
Borgonzi has made several strong additions to the team's defense this offseason, and if Sneed can return to his 2023 form, then he may be the missing piece for the Titans. While he has never won an individual award or been given any accolades by the league, he was a pivotal part of two Chiefs Super Bowl wins.
Ideally, he can help cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. grow and be a lockdown player in Tennessee's secondary. If he cannot get healthy, then the team may have to cut its losses.
