The Tennessee Titans had a hard time getting going last year under first-year head coach Brian Callahan. There is typically a learning curve for new coaches, but he had the benefit of his father, longtime NFL coach Bill Callahan, on the sidelines to help out as the Titans' offensive line coach.
New general manager Mike Borgonzi entered the fold this offseason and is being tasked with rebuilding this struggling franchise, and he did the Callahans a solid on Wednesday morning. NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reported that the team was signing offensive tackle Blake Hance, who played for Bill Callahan on the Cleveland Browns to a one-year, $1.3 million deal.
Hance is a five-year NFL veteran who has played for the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars. His best year was in 2021 for the Browns when he played in all 17 games and started eight of them.
Tennessee has invested plenty of capital into the offensive line in recent years. With recent first-rounders Peter Skoronski and JC Latham both set to be starters, and the team handing out an $82 million contract to offensive tackle Dan Moore in free agency, Hance is likely to just be a depth signing. But his connection with Bill Callahan could help him get some playing time.
