The Tennessee Titans were a mess during the 2024 NFL season, winning just three games en route to the league's worst record. This triggered a general manager change, with Mike Borgonzi taking over for Ran Carthon.

It was Tennessee's offense in particular that struggled last season, but Borgonzi already patched up several holes by drafting quarterback Cam Ward and several young pass-catchers to help him out.

However, the running back tandem of Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears was solid enough last season, finishing in the middle of the pack in terms of rushing yards and attempts during the 2024 campaign (via Pro Football Reference).

The Titans did draft Michigan running back Kalel Mullings in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and they also return rotational back Julius Chestnut. However, they were not done adding to their running back room.

On Thursday, just before training camp begins, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Titans were signing former New Orleans Saints running back Jordan Mims to a two-year deal.

Mims went undrafted in 2023 and signed with the Saints after a failed training camp stint with the Buffalo Bills. He spent two years in New Orleans, playing in 13 games and recording 20 rushes for 70 yards. He also caught 12 passes last season for 41 yards.

Now, he will compete with players like Mullings and Chestnut for snaps in a suddenly crowded Titans running back room. Chestnut recorded 113 all-purpose yards last season in 17 appearances for Tennessee.

Head coach Brian Callahan now has his choice of solid running backs to fill out the Titans' offense. Having a strong run game will be paramount to helping out Ward, the rookie signal-caller, who will already have plenty on his shoulders.
