Titans signing Tony Pollard, three year, $24 million deal to replace Derrick Henry after Jerry Jones ‘all in’ comment
Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

In a surprising turn of events, the Dallas Cowboys have released their running back Tony Pollard. As reported by the Associated Press, the running back’s next destination will be the Tennesee Titans. The Titans will replace their RB Derrick Henry with Tony Pollard in a three-year deal worth $24 million.

The development came after the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones claimed a few days ago that the team would be ‘all in’ even if they failed to give Dak Prescott a $60 million contract. The trade shook the foundation of what he claimed.

Pollard was drafted by the Cowboys in the year 2019. The RB totaled 3,621 rushing yards in his five straight seasons with 762 carries and 23 touchdowns. In addition, he also registered 176 receptions for 1,319 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns in his career. The RB had back-to-back 1000 yards rushing in the last two seasons. In the 2022-23 season, he totaled 1,007 rushing yards with nine touchdowns. In the 2023-24 season, Pollard totaled 1,005 rushing yards with six TDs. He also had 55 receptions for 311 yards, the highest in his career.

Considering his stats and impact on the team, the Cowboys used a franchise tag on the player for the 2023-24 season. However, they refused to do the same for the next season. Pollard will be a Titan for the next and the fans will love to see his form in the team as well.

There were rumors, that Pollard was willing to stay at the Cowboys in all possibilities. He reportedly accepted a pay cut as well. However, per the Athletic, SI reported it vague as the Cowboys tried to bring him back but the money became the sole obstacle. Pollard refused to take less than anything that he was paid last season. Hence, both parties had to announce their departure.

The Cowboys might go for Derrick Henry

As Tony Pollard had left the team, all eyes will be on the Cowboys’ next signing in the running-back position. Last season, both Dak Prescott and Pollard twinned well. Their endeavors often led to some brilliant touchdown moves. The Cowboys will need someone who can be a perfect fit to replace Pollard in all senses.

In this context, Derrick Henry’s name is doing rounds in the air. Henry, who turned 30 this year, is a free agent and has some brilliant stats behind his name. The former Heisman Trophy winner is leading the chart in total carries (280) in the 2023 season. In addition, he is second in rushing right after Christian McCaffrey. The only thing that can hold the Cowboys back is Henry’s age. The team can consider him an elderly RB.

Last season, the Cowboys amazed everyone with the last-minute trade of Trey Lance. It is to be seen whether the team provides any surprises this year as well.
