As the 2024 National Football League season opener inches closer, the Tennessee Titans are under the guidance of their new coach, Brian Callahan. On Wednesday, the team followed his lead for another day of organized team activities at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park.

The Titans are preparing for important sessions, including a mandatory minicamp from June 4-6. These sessions, called OTAs, are scheduled for May 20-21, May 23, May 28-29, May 31, and June 10-13. They are crucial for the team's preparation for the upcoming season.

The team engaged in a series of simulated football open to the media, which provided a glimpse into their strategies and preparations for the upcoming season. Let's delve into the details of this session.

Rookie tackle JC Latham, a promising addition to the team since being selected with the first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, continues to impress. His impeccable footwork and technique were on full display during the open window, showcasing his potential and dedication to learning his craft.

Callahan appreciates Latham's maturity beyond his rookie status.

"He doesn't carry himself like a rookie, which is always a good thing. He's very intentional about his work," Callahan said. "He works really hard. He spends a lot of time on this. I think he understands. Which not all rookies understand that it is a job. And there's an expectation, especially when you're drafted where he was drafted, that you got to come perform. And I think that he's aware of that. Not everybody always is. And, he's got some maturity to him, but he also has a youthful wonder that's kind of fun to be around. Everything's new to him, there's just a lot. And he just loves playing football."

Levis didn't speak to reporters, but we did get to watch him work in third-down situations. Considering the circumstances of a non-padded 7-v-7 drill, he looked as smooth as possible.

Callahan believes Levis is learning to improve how and when he throws the ball or leaves the pocket.

"You start with what you're asking him on a per-play basis," Callahan said. "You know, what is this progression asking? What is he supposed to do with his footwork? Where are his eyes supposed to be?  We're teaching the system first, and then as you get into situations like today being a third-down day, you get the chance to look back and say, 'This was the third-and-four decision. Could you have made a different one? Could the ball have gotten out quicker? We don't need to hold on to it in this particular instance.' So, there's a lot of coaching of the situations that go within teaching of the system."

According to Pro Football Focus, Cushenberry had his best season with the Denver Broncos last year, earning an overall grade of 73.2. In the passing game, he scored 76.4, and in the run game, he scored 72.4. Cushenberry only allowed one sack and 14 pressures in 17 games and 647 pass-blocking snaps.

The Titans hope the 6'4 315, pound Cushenberry can bring that same vibe to Nashville with Levis.

"These guys inside on the other side of defense keep getting bigger and better and stronger and faster every year, it feels like," Callahan said. "You want people that can match that, and Lloyd can do all those things. The secondary part of it is in the run game is now your double teams and your gap schemes and your down blocks, and for Lloyd, he can pull too, end up being a lot more stout and physical when you've got the size behind it."

Callahan noted how the Titans want to get bigger, stronger, and faster.

"So, I think you noticed that we like big people. That's probably not going to change. And bigger and stronger," Callahan said. "You don't generally want to sacrifice movement skills, but sometimes when you get a little bit extra strength and a little bit less movement, you can manage that.  But I'll say that those two things are really huge for having a big person in the middle of your offensive line."

Report: Bengals draw hard line in Trey Hendrickson contract talks

Cincinnati Bengals star defensive end Trey Hendrickson has been holding out from training camp as he seeks a new contract, and it does not sound like the two sides are all that close to a deal. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said on "SportsCenter" Monday that there has been "some progress" in negotiations between the Bengals and Hendrickson's representatives over the past week or so. The real disagreement has to do with guaranteed money, and Cincinnati's brass is not budging. "Hendrickson wants a stronger guaranteed structure, particularly later in what should be a multiyear deal. In talking to people with the Bengals they feel like, 'Hey, we've probably relented as far as we can go.' So this is a classic stare-off right now, and it's time to buckle up," Fowler said, via Andrew Peters of Bleacher Report. Hendrickson is set to earn $16M in base salary in the final year of his contract this season. He recently said he has shown a willingness to take less than market value on a new deal, but the Bengals do not want to guarantee him money beyond the 2026 season. Based on what he has said, the 30-year-old Hendrickson is not seeking to become the highest-paid defensive player in football. In order to accomplish that, he would have to top the three-year, $123M extension T.J. Watt signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. Hendrickson had 35 sacks over the past two seasons, which was the most in the NFL during that span. He had 17.5 sacks each season and finished second in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2024. The Bengals took care of one major offseason issue on Sunday when they finally signed first-round pick Shemar Stewart to a rookie deal. All it will take is one side to budge in the team's ongoing stalemate with Hendrickson, but all parties seem to be dug in as training camp rolls on.

Fever Coach Stephanie White Has Given One Player the Green Light Amid Caitlin Clark's Injury

Caitlin Clark is expected to sit out for a fourth straight game on Sunday when the Indiana Fever take on the Chicago Sky in a much-awaited rivalry matchup. The 23-year-old is still dealing with a reaggravated groin strain and has no timetable to return. The rest of her Fever teammates have had to step up in her absence. There is, perhaps, no other player who has taken a bigger role on the offensive end amid Clark’s injury spell than three-time All-Star Kelsey Mitchell. Mitchell, however, struggled with her shot in Thursday’s win against the Las Vegas Aces. The 5-foot-8 guard shot the ball poorly in the first three quarters, going just 4-of-19 from the field for 12 points. Mitchell caught fire in the fourth, though. She went 4-of-5 in the final frame for nine points, finishing with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-24 shooting. This is exactly why head coach Stephanie White remains completely confident in Mitchell’s scoring ability. The veteran coach has made it clear that she has given Mitchell the green light to shoot the rock. “The biggest thing with Kelsey is just telling her, ‘Let it fly.’ It’s going to go,” White said after Thursday’s win against Las Vegas. "... Keep shooting it from outside. She made some big ones when we needed them.” Kelsey Mitchell Has Stepped up Amid Clark's Injury Mitchell has answered the call for the Fever of late. In the three games Clark has been sidelined, Mitchell has put up averages of 22.0 points on 42.9% shooting. She also knocked down 2.7 triples during that stretch on a 34.8% clip. The 29-year-old veteran will need to keep her foot on the gas on Sunday as the Fever try to take down the Sky at United Center. With Clark watching from the bench, the Fever will rely on Mitchell’s scoring against Chicago as they look to improve on their 13-12 record. The Fever and Sky meet at 3 p.m. ET Sunday on ABC.

Ryan McMahon Only Needed 2 Games With the Yankees to Embarrass Aaron Boone

Only eight plate appearances into his New York Yankees career, Ryan McMahon has already been more productive than the team’s previous third base options. What might sound hyperbolic or outright false at first glance is actually true, at least from a certain point of view. Analytics — specifically, Wins Above Replacement — proves that argument, and it’s one that Yankees manager Aaron Boone should be ashamed of. McMahon went 2-for-3 with a two-run double in Sunday’s victory over the Phillies, giving him four hits in his first eight at-bats. FanGraphs ruled that McMahon is already worth 0.2 fWAR through two games in a Yankees uniform. Amazingly, McMahon has a higher fWAR than the trio of DJ LeMahieu, Oswald Peraza, and Jorbit Vivas, who have played a combined 148 games in the infield thus far. LeMahieu provided -0.1 fWAR over 45 games before being unceremoniously cut earlier this month, while Vivas (-0.2) is currently at Triple-A. Peraza and his -0.6 fWAR remain on the active roster, though he’s shifted into a bench role. Baseball-Reference has been slightly more generous, giving Peraza -0.2 bWAR. Boone stuck with LeMahieu and Peraza until he couldn’t anymore, and it’s partly why the Yankees have dropped to 5 1/2 games back in the AL East. Injuries and age took their toll on LeMahieu, who only played second after returning from calf and hip problems. Peraza owns a .152 average and .452 OPS in 170 plate appearances. We’ll see if McMahon can elevate the Yankees, who open a pivotal four-game set with the rival Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.

LA Lakers have inside track to sign 2x All-Star in new buyout deal, it would complete their roster

The Los Angeles Lakers could make yet another addition to their roster this offseason. After a poor postseason run, the Los Angeles Lakers have been active this summer in hopes of bolstering their roster. In fact, general manager Rob Pelinka has already made some key additions to the roster, including Deandre Ayton, Jake LaRavia, and Marcus Smart. Signing an elite center was arguably the most important task for Pelinka this offseason, and he fulfilled it with the arrival of Ayton. However, one could argue that the Lakers still need a quality backup center. Luka Doncic could recruit Nikola Vucevic to the Los Angeles Lakers While the Lakers re-signed Jaxson Hayes, a player of Chicago Bulls star Nikola Vucevic’s caliber would undoubtedly be a major upgrade. Moreover, with Vucevic being on the Lakers’ radar for years, it means that the organization rates him highly. Previously, the Bulls didn’t indulge in a trade with the Purple and Gold around Vucevic. It has led to Vucevic’s trade value diminishing so much that he is expected to complete a contract buyout with the Bulls. The Laker Nation would love to sign the 34-year-old, and Luka Doncic can help in this quest. How? Well, Doncic and Vucevic share the same agent in Bill Duffy. This means that if Vucevic completes a buyout, the Lakers could have the upper hand in negotiations. The 2x NBA All-Star has given the last five and a half seasons of his career to the Bulls, but it’s obvious that their time together is about to end sooner rather than later. Adding fuel to the fire were former Orlando Magic star Evan Fournier’s comments. Fournier ridiculed the Bulls while taking a shot at Vucevic after the latter called out his move overseas. Luka Doncic has already proven he can recruit stars Ahead of his first full season with the Lakers, Doncic is doing everything in his power to bring back the glory days for the Lakers. He has already undergone a massive transformation to silence his critics. Additionally, Doncic has been actively involved in recruiting players for the Lakers. Smart admitted Doncic was a huge reason behind his decision to sign with the Lakers. Ayton also acknowledged Luka’s role in his decision to join the Purple and Gold. Let’s not forget Ayton also has the same agent as the Slovenian superstar. So, Doncic has already given the inside track for one star; there’s no reason to doubt he would do the same in Vucevic’s case.
