Titans to interview Mike McDaniel for HC job

It’s been less than 48 hours since the Miami Dolphins ousted Mike McDaniel as their head coach, and he’s already put his hat in the ring for a head-coaching job with another one of the league’s 32 teams. Specifically, he is set to interview for the Tennessee Titans’ opening on Wednesday, according to Tom Pelissero. The Titans’ interim head coach in 2025, Mike McCoy, is among the more than a dozen people who have already completed interviews for the job.

The Dolphins’ move to cut McDaniel loose just days after the end of their season came as a shock to a lot of fans (as well as to the 42-year-old himself, allegedly). There were rumors and rumblings leading up to the end of the campaign suggesting the Dolphins’ late-season turnaround meant McDaniel’s job with the team was secure (at least in the interim). But it turned out that Miami winning six of its last 10 games of the season wasn’t enough for him to keep his job.

For as impressive as it would be if McDaniel managed to secure another head-coaching job so soon after he was let go, ultimately, he would be moving from one dysfunctional organization to another. Tennessee has missed the playoffs in every one of the last four seasons and has three consecutive last-place finishes in the AFC South division. The 2025 season might have been one of their worst in a long time, too, as despite landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and drafting quarterback Cameron Ward, the Titans won just three games.

While McDaniel is looking ahead to his Titans interview, the Dolphins have a hole at the head coach position and are searching for the man to succeed him. In the very early stages of Miami’s search, former Baltimore Ravens head coach and Super Bowl-winning John Harbaugh has been floated as a potential candidate to be the Dolphins’ next leader from the sidelines.
