Todd Monken Faces Quarterback Decision Following Shedeur Sanders News

Watson was named the starter for the Browns’ preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. The veteran quarterback, despite losing a fumble, showed his experience as he completed 11 of 15 passes for 126 passing yards. Sanders, on the other hand, struggled and threw an interception to cap off his disappointing night.

Sanders, who started against the Buffalo Bills in the Browns second preseason game, bounced back as he threw for 74 passing yards and one touchdown. However, it was not enough for him to win the starting job, as Monken ultimately decided to go with Watson’s experience.

Monken, who has acknowledged that carrying four quarterbacks into the season presents a challenge, still has a difficult decision to make regarding Taylen Green before the August 30 cutdown deadline at 6 p.m. E.T. If Monken decides to waive Green, the athletic quarterback could attract interest from quarterback-needy teams around the league.

Green, when asked about his chances of making the 53-man roster, said, “Can’t control that. You know, you gotta just be where your two feet are and control what you can control and put your best foot forward each and every day.”

Green is expected to play in the Browns’ final preseason game against the New England Patriots on August 27. This could prove to be a make-or break opportunity for him as he tries to strengthen his case for a spot on the 53-man roster.
