Top five Super Bowl contenders for 2026

The Seattle Seahawks triumphed over the New England Patriots on Sunday, winning Super Bowl LX 29-13. This victory marks the Seahawks' second Lombardi Trophy. The game showcased the Seahawks' dominant performance.

With the offseason now in full swing, here is a detailed and early analysis of the top five Super Bowl contenders for the 2026 season.

2026 Super Bowl contenders

1. Seattle Seahawks

Seattle is positioned to repeat and be the favorite for 2026. With Mike Macdonald's revolutionary defense, which is a highly aggressive, flexible/hybrid approach. It keeps the offense out of rhythm by utilizing multiple disguises and blitzes from multiple positions and gaps, favoring athleticism. If they manage to retain key players like Riq Woolen and Kenneth Walker, they will be a difficult team to beat.

2. Los Angeles Rams

The Rams' explosive offense, led by 2025 MVP Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay's creativity, remains lethal. Their young, bolstered defense continues to develop, positioning them for another deep run. McVay's innovative schemes and Stafford's experience in big moments make Los Angeles a perennial title contender for 2026.

3. Denver Broncos

The Broncos' 2025 season will forever be a big "What If?" This is due to Bo Nix's late-game right ankle fracture against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC divisional round. Ultimately, their season ended against a tough Patriots team. With a top-three defense in points allowed and total yards, and leading the league in sacks with 64, they will be back. As long as Bo Nix and Sean Payton continue their rise, they will be a favorite.

4. Buffalo Bills

If Josh Allen is your quarterback, you'll always have a chance to compete. With the promotion of offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coach, along with the hiring of experienced coaches Pete Carmichael and Jim Leonhard, the team could finally overcome their playoff challenges. Overall, Allen's elite arm talent and mobility, paired with an improving defense under new schemes, keep the Bills in the conversation.

5. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are a team to watch as a dark horse in 2026. With the addition of versatile Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator and the rising candidate Chris O'Leary, they have become an intriguing contender. Jim Harbaugh consistently brings physicality and a competitive edge every week. If they can maintain health and consistency, they could elevate themselves into the conversation for the AFC Championship.
