On Sunday, Travis Hunter and the Jacksonville Jaguars walked out of Week 1 with a win, now three away from their 2024 total. For Hunter, his first NFL game was his first win, but he's already thinking and going about things the right way.
"We went out there and won. My first game was a dub, so that's exciting for me," Hunter told reporters on-site after the win when asked about anything that he'll remember in his first game.
Liam Coen has already got this team looking better than the one that we all saw last season. And, Travis Hunter is already acting like a veteran.

This may seem like a player just saying what everyone wants to hear, but it's much more than that, and let me tell you why. All of the big-time, franchise type of rookies that won their first game this week, or ever, usually take it all in and talk about everything that happened. That’s fine, live in your moment and bask in the glory. For Hunter, he’s not feeding into the juice or the hype. He’s not letting himself or the team get too high on one win, because he knows that there is much more work to be done. His answer was short, to the point, concise, and showed that he did care, while also showing he’s not going to let himself get carried away, or let himself start taking his foot off the gas.
Those are the types of things that all-time greats do.
The season just started, it's only Week 1, so we won't start saying that this team will win the Super Bowl, because let me be frank, they won't. But, this team is much better than last year's team, and they look like they're better than the two before that, but there is still a lot we have to learn and figure out about this team. The one thing we do know, is that this team does have Travis Hunter, who has the potential to be a top-ten player on both sides of the ball.
He can be their biggest gamechanger.
No one is expecting Hunter to be one of the best players in the league in Year 1, let alone in Week 1. But, he does have some pretty lofty expectations set on himself in terms of what he makes his career out to be. He has the mentality to be an all-time great, and he has the skill set and work ethic to get there, too. Now, it's about putting it all together, the coaching staff putting him in positions to succeed, and all of the pieces falling together.
On Sunday, Hunter had six catches for 33 yards, and one tackle on the other side of the ball. He had a pretty good outing for a rookie that plays on both sides of the ball, and a rookie who's not the No. 1 guy at his position on both sides of the ball. So, he's not going to get as many looks as a guy like Brenton Strange or Brian Thomas, on a week-to-week basis, that is. Hunter will only get better, though, as this is just the beginning.
Next week, the Jaguars play the Cincinnati Bengals, where on defense he will have his hands full, on offense, not as much.
