Jacksonville Jaguars two-way star Travis Hunter ran full-speed sprints off to the side of Jacksonville/Miami’s joint practice on Thursday, per NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe. It was a positive sign just weeks away from the regular season, but he did not practice as he is still dealing with an upper-body injury.
Hunter did not play in last week’s preseason game as he continues to deal with a minor injury. He has instead been watching practice with a play sheet in his hands while standing next to Jaguars wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett, according to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco.

It doesn’t look like we’re going to see Hunter or Campbell today. Both dealing with minor injuries.
Head coach Liam Coen revealed that it is team protocol for a player to stand next to a coach with a play sheet if he’s hurt, so they can stay focused on the task at hand even though they’re not participating.
“That’s what they’re supposed to do when they’re hurt,” Coen said, via ESPN. “We want ’em to make sure that they’re locked in, getting all the calls, understanding the call and being able to watch and execute as well in their minds.”
Hunter – the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft – played in Jacksonville’s preseason opener two weeks ago against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played 19 snaps, including 10 on offense. He t otaled two catches for nine yards on the opening drive, but didn’t record a defensive stat. Hunter was not targeted on defense.
However, Coen said he thought Hunter played well on offense with some solid catches. While he noticed a missed tackle on defense, it was still a good debut for the former Colorado star.
“I think he made a couple good catches on some option routes,” Coen said in his postgame press conference, via NFL.com’s Grant Condon. “He missed the one tackle defensively that I noticed, like that was the only thing that I kind of noticed. In terms of his overall play, I’ll have to watch the tape on how he operated defensively a little bit more, but I thought offensively, he made the right decisions on those option routes. He made a good catch and almost broke out of that one.”
Hunter cemented himself as a bona fide two-way threat at Colorado as he helped spearhead the program’s turnaround under Deion Sanders. He totaled 1,258 yards and a Big 12-leading 15 touchdowns on offense while adding 36 tackles and four interceptions on defense as a cornerback. That made him one of the more intriguing prospects in the draft, and the Jaguars traded up to select him No. 2 overall.
