The Kansas City Chiefs opened the 2026 NFL season in style at Arrowhead Stadium. Taylor Swift was in attendance to support her husband Travis Kelce. Patrick Mahomes made his return to the field after suffering a season-ending injury last year.
The Chiefs dominated their divisional rivals, the Denver Broncos, 31-10, for their first win of the season. Kelce caught three passes for 71 yards. The 11-time Pro Bowler also climbed to No. 2 in NFL history for most receiving yards by a tight end.
Mahomes, meanwhile, had a great first game back. The three-time Super Bowl MVP completed 15-of-27 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He also carried the ball seven times for 23 yards and a rushing touchdown. The star quarterback picked up right where he left off before he tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee last season.
During his postgame interview, Kelce addressed Mahomes’ return from injury. The veteran TE expressed his excitement about this development.
“He was saying it all week,” Kelce said. “He just needed that first hit and he was going to be Patty Mahomes.
“You can see that one-five (15) is starting to get comfortable again. I think next week you’ll even see him take his game to another level.”

This mirrors what Mahomes promised to Chiefs fans. He said after the game that he is just getting started.
Kansas City will host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday for their Week 2 matchup. Mahomes and Kelce will look to lead their team to an early 2-0 start this season.
