The Kansas City Chiefs are one win away from making it back to the Super Bowl, but their run this season has been mired in controversy.
Kansas City has only lost twice this year, but they've received favorable calls in several games this season, even when the other team didn't appear to commit an infraction.
Things reached a breaking point for many fans - and at one point, analyst Troy Aikman - last week against the Houston Texans.
Fouls on the Texans were called after two instances in which little or no contact was made to a Chiefs player, leading fans to believe that the team is benefitting from an unfair advantage with the officials.
During their "New Heights" podcast this week, Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce and his brother Jason attempted to address the matter.
"He didn't even get touched," Jason said, reacting to one play in which two Texans players attempted to tackle quarterback Patrick Mahomes but ended up hitting each other.
"I understand why they called it. I just think it was a bad call."
Travis responded by removing himself from the conversation, simply noting that "I'd like to plead the Fifth," invoking his right to remain silent.
Mahomes was asked about the calls on Wednesday, and he stood firm in his belief that the team is not receiving a boost from officials.
"I don't feel that way,'' Mahomes said when asked if he thinks the Chiefs are benefitting from preferential treatment.
"At the end of the day, the referees are doing their best to call the game as fair and as proper as they possibly can. And all you can do is go out there and play the game that you love as hard as you can and live with the results."
The Chiefs have loved the results for most of the season, and they're going to look to keep things moving in the right direction with a third consecutive AFC championship on Sunday.
Kansas City will host a familiar foe, as they'll take on the Buffalo Bills once again. The Chiefs have had Buffalo's number in the postseason over the last few years, but the Bills own a win over this year's team during the regular season.
We'll see what happens this week, as the teams meet with a trip to New Orleans for Super Bowl 59 on the line.
