Travis Kelce has decided to return for his 13th season, and he made it clear that there is one free agent he hopes the Kansas City Chiefs bring back too.
"Hopefully we get my guy Kareem Hunt back," Kelce said on the latest New Heights episode. "I f***ing love that guy. I want to win one for that guy so bad."
The Chiefs brought back Hunt during the 2024 season after losing Isaiah Pacheco to injury. They needed a starting-caliber running back and looked towards the player they drafted in 2017 in the third round.
Hunt began his career in Kansas City, but was released in 2018 after a video surfaced of Hunt pushing a woman to the ground and then kicking her. Authorities did not proceed with criminal charges after the women stopped cooperating. Clark Hunt said at the time that the decision to move on was because the running back was not being truthful about what happened on the video.
However, the CEO revealed why he decided to bring Hunt back in October.
"Yeah, well, you know, going back six years ago, we were obviously very disappointed by the actions that we saw in that video and how he handled it afterward," Clark told reporters. "As we talked about it, as an organization here a few weeks ago, both Brett (Veach) and Andy (Reid) expressed to me that they felt confident that he had matured from that, that he'd learned from the mistake, gotten the help that he had needed, and as a result, we felt comfortable in bringing him back."
He was given a second chance, and took full advantage. Hunt finished the season with 200 carries for 728 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, along with 23 receptions for 176 receiving yards.
