Amid lofty expectations for the 2025 NFL season, offseason chatter for the Kansas City Chiefs has centered not only on bolstering the offensive line to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes but also on the status of the team’s elder statesman at tight end, Travis Kelce.

Recent reports suggested Kelce embarked on a dramatic transformation this spring, allegedly shedding 25 pounds to regain his athletic edge after what many viewed as a down year (823 yards, three TDs).

But on Wednesday, Kelce set the record straight, dismissing the 25-pound narrative, telling reporters, "First of all, I never said that… don’t believe everything you read on the internet… I am down some weight."

A key contributor to each of Kansas City’s three titles this decade, Kelce enters his 13th NFL season at age 35 as a ten-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All‑Pro, including four first‑team nods.

He also holds the NFL record for most consecutive 1,000‑yard seasons by a tight end (seven) and has 12,151 career receiving yards and 77 touchdowns, ranking among the position’s all‑time leaders.

The Kansas City Chiefs closed the 2024 regular season with a franchise‑record 15-2 mark, steamrolling the AFC West before stumbling into Super Bowl LIX.

After disposing of the Texans (23-14) and edging the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship, Kansas City fell to the Eagles, 40-22, in New Orleans, ending their bid for an unprecedented three‑peat.

Kansas City opens the 2025 season in São Paulo, Brazil, against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5, a global stage fitting for a franchise that again looks like the class of the AFC.
