Travis Kelce finally addressed Xavier Worthy’s injury. The Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end blamed himself for the young receiver’s unfortunate situation. Kelce returned to the Chiefs for a 13th season after yo-yoing with retirement. The 35-year-old wasn’t fond of the way the previous year ended and aimed to make amends by securing his fourth Super Bowl ring.
In pursuit of his glory, Kelce and the Chiefs began their redemption arc against divisional rivals the Los Angeles Chargers. Despite struggling in the early parts of the game, they kept pace with the Chargers, but then came a crushing blow.
Both Kelce and second-year wide receiver Xavier Worthy attacked the same ball in the Chargers’ red zone, which resulted in a mid-route collision. Kelce’s 6-foot-5, 250-pound frame flattened Worthy to the ground, and he was immediately taken out of the game.
Rashee Rice’s ban kept him out of the matchday roster, so Worthy’s injury significantly weakened the Chiefs’ offense even though Hollywood Brown racked up his best numbers in KC red. Despite putting up a good fight, the Chiefs succumbed to a six-point defeat.

All eyes turned to the doctor’s report on Worthy’s injury. The report revealed that the Texas graduate had suffered a dislocated shoulder, which will keep him out of action for several weeks.
Travis Kelce did not speak with the media after the game but addressed Worthy’s injury on Wednesday’s episode of the New Heights podcast.
I’m supposed to be running my route at depth for [Xavier] Worthy. So, it’s frustrating for me. I was trying to kind of set up my guy to be able to get into position, and it all just happened pretty quickly. I just gotta be better, man. I’m 13 years in the league. There is no excuse for me running into my own guys like that.

The Chiefs drafted Worthy 28th overall in 2024. He played 16 games, racking up 59 receptions for 638 yards and 6 touchdowns en route to his first Super Bowl appearance.
Chiefs beat writer Matt McMullen asked head coach Andy Reid for a statement on Worthy’s injury. Reid revealed that Worthy’s condition was day-to-day, and they would continue to monitor his rehab.
Worthy missed Wednesday’s practice, but Reid provided a positive update on the wideout.
Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy wasn’t out at practice during the media viewing period. But he was in the locker room in his jersey earlier today. Early indications (no immediate IR stint, Andy Reid saying surgery not on the table now) seem to indicate the Chiefs don’t think this is a long-term injury.
The Athletic’s Jesse Newell tweeted

However, Reid refrained from putting a date on Worthy’s return. The Chiefs are currently left with Brown, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Tyquan Thornton on the active roster. They have the option of elevating Nikko Remigio from the practice squad.
I swear Chiefs receivers get hurt by just simply existing

Despite the myriad of weapons available for Reid, none of them possesses Worthy’s speed. At this juncture, they have been linked with former player and current Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill.
The Super Bowl winner experienced an epic fallout with the Dolphins due to their lackluster year. He stayed, but the Dolphins’ blowout loss against the Colts has thrown Hill’s future at South Beach in question. Rumors have been floating around that the Chiefs might be willing to make a trade. Fans have to wait and see.
The thing about trading for Tyreek is other teams will be terrified of an Antonio Brown situation. There won’t be a robust market for him and the Chiefs know they have the culture/leadership to keep Hill in check. Once Miami waves the white flag — and that seems imminent — KC…

In the meantime, the Chiefs have a Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles this week. The Eagles defeated the Dallas Cowboys in their opening day fixture and are favorites to secure a win against the Chiefs.
