Trent Williams Injury Update Emerges Before Eagles Game

A hamstring injury prevented Trent Williams from suiting up in the San Francisco 49ers' final game of the regular season. The three-time All-Pro tackle was sidelined for Saturday’s 13-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks as the Niners’ six-game winning streak came to an end. San Francisco, however, had already secured its spot in the NFC playoffs before their season finale.

Williams was also unable to practice on Wednesday, casting doubt on his status for Sunday’s wild-card showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Niners will be at their best when they take on the defending champions, and Williams’ availability will be pivotal for quarterback Brock Purdy and San Francisco’s offensive line.

Williams sustained his injury in Week 17 against the Chicago Bears. He was forced to leave the game after tweaking his hamstring and was unable to return. The 37-year-old missed practice in the build-up to the Seahawks game and was ultimately forced to sit out.

The good news for the Niners is that Williams is now trending towards the right direction in terms of his availability for Sunday’s do-or-die matchup against the Eagles. After missing Wednesday’s practice, a fully-padded Williams was spotted taking part in Thursday’s session.

While the Niners have not confirmed his status for Sunday’s game, the fact that he was able to practice on Thursday is a significant step in the right direction. San Francisco has one final practice on Friday, and Williams’ availability for that one will play a key role in determining his final status against the Eagles.

Williams played all 16 games for the Niners this season prior to missing the season finale. He’s been the heart of the team’s offensive line, maintaining his status as one of the best offensive tackles in the league. Williams was named a Pro Bowler for the 12th time in his career this season.
