The New England Patriots had one of the worst offenses in the NFL during the 2024 season and were lacking playmakers all over the field. They may have fixed that, at least in part, with second-round pick TreVeyon Henderson.
He gave the Patriots a taste of what he is capable of on Friday night in their preseason opener against the Washington Commanders.
He didn't waste anytime in doing so, either.
Henderson took the game's opening kickoff and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown on his first touch in an NFL game.

That was not his only big play of the night.
On his first touch on offense, he took a handoff around the left side and sprinted 18 yards for a first down, and then hauled in three passes for 12 yards. That's 30 yards on four offensive touches and 100 yards on one special teams touch.
It's important to not make too much out of preseason games, especially just one preseason game, but it still has to give Patriots fans a huge sense of optimism to see an offensive playmaker doing things like that on the field.
Henderson was a constant big-play threat during his four years at Ohio State, but he did not always get consistent touches or become a focal point of the offense. At least not as much as he could have been. His upside is significant, and if he can make an impact for the Patriots in the running game, the passing game and the special teams game, it will give young quarterback Drake Maye some much-needed help.
