TreVeyon Henderson and the New England Patriots defeated the Houston Texans 28-16 in the divisional round. It was a slow game for the running back. He rushed for just 25 yards on 12 carries. The Patriots match up against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game.
New England went 14-3 in the regular season, and Henderson was a big piece of the Patriots' success. He appeared in all 17 games and made four starts, leading the team in carries (180), rushing yards (911) and touchdowns (nine).
The second-round pick from the Ohio State Buckeyes is quickly establishing himself as one of the NFL's top young stars.
As the Patriots continue to work toward a Super Bowl appearance, the rookie is earning a fair amount of national recognition.
Before playing the Broncos, it was announced that Henderson was named to the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) All-Rookie Team. He is one of two Patriots named to the list, joined by place kicker Andy Borregales.
It may not be the last time Henderson is honored. He has also been named one of six finalists for the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Year.
While earning a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team is exciting, Henderson remains focused on the Broncos. Henderson and the Patriots are going up against a tough Denver defense that finished the season ranked third in points allowed per game (18.3) and second in rushing yards allowed per game (91.1).
Kickoff is Sunday at 3 p.m. ET at Empower Field at Mile High, airing on CBS and Paramount+. ESPN's matchup predictor gives New England a 59.1% chance of winning.
