Trevon Diggs Development Surfaces Before Cowboys-Packers Game

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs was forced to exit his team’s deflating 31-14 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The All-Pro cornerback went down early in the second half after making a tackle on Bears wide receiver DJ Moore. It was a shoulder injury that took Diggs out of that game, but it appears that it is no longer a significant issue for the 27-year-old heading into their Week 4 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

This does not mean that Diggs is a lock to suit up against Green Bay, though. In fact, the former Alabama star was unable to practice on Wednesday. According to the first injury report for the Cowboys-Bears game, Diggs was a non-participant in practice due to a knee injury.

Although the severity of the knee issue is currently unclear, it is worth noting that Diggs underwent knee surgery in January. He was listed on the injury report heading into the Bears game with the knee issue, but was ultimately able to play.

This only means that Diggs may be available for Sunday’s clash against Green Bay. However, his status in practice in the coming days will need to be monitored before the Cowboys make their final decision on the two-time Pro Bowler.

On the bright side, cornerback DaRon Bland, who recently signed a four-year extension with Dallas worth $92 million and $50 million guaranteed, was able to practice on Wednesday, albeit in a limited capacity.

After taking the field in the Cowboys’ season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Bland ended up missing the last two games due to a foot problem. The fact that Bland took part in practice means that he may be ready to play come Sunday, confirming Jerry Jones' statement about the 26-year-old having a good chance to suit up in Week 4.

Defense has been a significant issue for Dallas early in the season, and the return of Bland to the lineup should serve as a boost against Jordan Love and the Packers.
