Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars entered Sunday’s wild-card matchup against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills with some very high hopes. The Jaguars finished the regular season with a 13-4 record to win the AFC South championship. They entered the NFL playoffs as the No. 3 seed, which meant home-field advantage in the first round.

Unfortunately for the Jaguars, their season ended in heartbreak on Sunday. They suffered a 27-24 loss to the Bills, with Lawrence throwing a game-sealing interception that led to the loss. The Pro Bowl quarterback finished with 18-of-30 completed passes for 207 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, adding 31 rushing yards on six carries.

This was Lawrence’s second trip to the playoffs in his five-year NFL career. During the 2022 season, the former No. 1 overall pick led Jacksonville to the Divisional Round. They lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 27-20.

In 2024, Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million extension with the Jaguars. The deal includes multiple incentive bonuses. Unfortunately for the former Clemson Tigers star, he lost $1.5 million in bonuses on Sunday after their defeat to the Bills.

Lawrence’s contract stipulates a $500,000 bonus if the Jaguars win the conference championship. A second incentive was for $1 million if Jacksonville wins the Super Bowl. In both instances, Lawrence is required to play at least 60% of their snaps in the playoffs.

Lawrence is no longer eligible for either of these two contract incentives because of Sunday’s loss to Buffalo.

Allen and the Bills, on the other hand, are now headed to the divisional round of the AFC playoffs. Their opponent has not yet been determined, but Buffalo will get more information on the same after the Los Angeles Chargers-New England Patriots game on Sunday night. Either way, the Bills will be on the road in the next round.
