Trinidad Chambliss Week 1 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Heading into the year, I wasn’t as high on Trinidad Chambliss for the NFL Draft as some others. In Week 1, Chambliss has jumped quite a bit up in my rankings.

On NFL Mock Draft Database, Chambliss ranked 95th (QB11), and while I’ve yet to dive that deep for my big board, he did not make my top 35. However, I’ve heard plenty of hype around Chambliss, and this PFSN Industry Consensus Big Board shows that.

On PFSN, Chambliss ranks as the QB4, at 37th overall. My general takeaway last season from Chambliss is that he’s a day two quarterback, closer to round three. It did not look that way in Week 1.

To help contrast what changed and why I wasn’t a fan of Chambliss last year, here are my biggest knocks. Chambliss is a small quarterback, which is still true, at 6’0”, 205 lbs. While I didn’t think Chambliss’ arm strength and arm talent were bad, it didn’t seem like he made up for these limitations as much as he would need to in the NFL.

Going off that, it felt like a lot of RPOs contributed to Chambliss’ success, and I didn’t see him consistently making as many NFL throws as I’d like. That’s not something I felt like was the case tonight, and it should be noted that Ole Miss has a new offensive coordinator in John David Baker.

As for the arm strength, the ball didn’t pop out of Chambliss’s hand effortlessly, and you can tell he has to put a lot into it, but there was a ton of zip on his passes tonight. One of those was a dart on the money to Deuce Alexander when the score was 13-10.
