Tampa Bay Buccaneers star offensive tackle exited Thursday’s game with a leg injury, but an encouraging update offers relief.
The Buccaneers finally ended their four-game losing streak Thursday night, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 24-16. Strong performances from the offense and defense helped Tampa Bay secure its first win of the 2026 season. However, the victory came with a concerning moment when starting offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs left the game with a leg injury.
Wirfs did not return after exiting with the injury, raising concerns about a potentially significant setback. Losing the veteran tackle for an extended period would create another challenge for Tampa Bay. Fortunately, a postgame update provided some encouraging news about his condition.
According to Fox Sports reporter Greg Auman, Wirfs should be OK moving forward. Auman shared the following update after speaking with the offensive tackle following Thursday’s game.
“Talked to Wirfs in postgame — his knee got rolled up on, put a brace on to help with that, then was dealing with cramps in the same leg,” Auman reported. “He’ll be OK moving forward.”
The update offers relief for a Buccaneers team that cannot afford another significant injury. Wirfs dealt with injuries during the team’s preseason preparations before returning to action this season. His status moving forward will remain worth monitoring, particularly given his importance to Tampa Bay’s offensive line.
Tampa Bay’s victory featured a productive rushing attack and a gutsy performance from quarterback Jalon Daniels. The offense consistently found success on the ground, while the defense delivered several timely takeaways against Dallas.
The Buccaneers now have an extended break before their Week 6 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. That additional recovery time could prove valuable as the team evaluates injuries following Thursday’s game. For now, the initial update on Wirfs provides reason for optimism as Tampa Bay prepares for its next challenge.
