The Kansas City Chiefs will seek history on Sunday night.
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones have led the Chiefs into all five Super Bowl appearances over the past six years. However, the roster features plenty of players seeking their first championship.
Kansas City activated two players ahead of its Super Bowl 59 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. On Saturday, the Chiefs elevated cornerback Steven Nelson and linebacker Swayze Bozeman from the practice squad.
This isn't Nelson's first taste of postseason football. The former third-round pick has made the playoffs in seven of the last eight years with four different teams.
Nelson played with Kansas City from 2015 to 2018. Six years ago, he played every snap in an AFC Championship Game loss to the New England Patriots.
Nelson spent two years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a stint ending with a first-round loss to the Cleveland Browns in the 2020 postseason. He started 16 games for the Eagles in 2021 and recorded a pick-six during the Houston Texans' Wild Card Round victory last year.
However, Nelson hasn't played all season. He returned from retirement to join Kansas City's practice squad in December.
"He was a good player when he was here," Reid said after the Chiefs signed Nelson. " ... He had a nice career for the last [nine] years. It was the ability to add a little depth to that spot."
Meanwhile, Bozeman made his NFL debut late in the regular season. He recorded three tackles in a Week 17 win over the Steelers and a combined tackle on special teams during Kansas City's AFC Championship Game victory against the Buffalo Bills.
For a football team about to play their 20th game, the Chiefs are remarkably healthy.
Kansas City listed just four players on its last injury report. That includes Mahomes, but the star quarterback has fully practiced all week and will play despite suffering a high ankle sprain during the regular season.
Offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor (knee) and punter Matt Araiza (illness) were also full participants on Thursday and Friday and have no game designation. However, wide receiver Skyy Moore is doubtful with an abdominal injury.
Moore hasn't registered a catch all season, and he hasn't played since Week 7.
Super Bowl 59 kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
