Two Current 49ers Identified as Hall of Fame Locks

The Hall of Fame Game just took place on Thursday night, so the Hall is fresh on people's mind. As a result, Carter of Bahns of CBS Sports published his list of active NFL players who are locks to make it to Canton.

To nobody's surprise, Bahns selected Trent Williams and Mike Evans from the 49ers.

"If not for the hamstring and clavicle injuries that cost him more than half of last season, Mike Evans could have broken the NFL record for consecutive 1,000-yard seasons," Bahns said. "That extended run of consistent, high-end production made Evans a Buccaneers legend, not to mention the Super Bowl he won with them in 2021. Anything Evans achieves with the 49ers is gravy on what is already a Hall of Fame-worthy résumé."

It's hard to disagree with anything Bahns said. Evans has not only been one of the best receivers of his generation, but also one of the best of all time. The Texas A&M product has six Pro Bowl selections, one Super Bowl, and 11 seasons with at least 1,000 yards.

Imagine if Evans wins a Super Bowl with the 49ers. As Bahns said, Evans is already a Hall of Famer anyway, but adding another ring would legitimately give Evans one of the best receiver resumes of all time.

As for Williams, the same that was said about Evans can be said about his career as an offensive tackle.

"Only a couple of other active players are as surefire of a first-ballot Hall of Famer as Trent Williams. His longevity as an elite left tackle -- and the fact that he has essentially only become better with age, rather than the other way around -- is uncanny," Bahns said.

Williams spent the first nine years of his career with Washington and earned Pro Bowl bids in seven of those seasons. Since coming to San Francisco, Williams has earned five more Pro Bowl selections and all three of his First-team All-Pro selections.

Other 49ers Who have a Shot to Make Hall of Fame

If the 49ers win a ring in the near future, there will be a few more players likely knocking on the door of the Hall when they retire. Running back Christian McCaffrey, tight end George Kittle, and linebacker Fred Warner are probably either a few more elite seasons and/or a ring away from being in Williams and Evans territory.

Of course, it's way too early, but if Brock Purdy continues to improve and leads the 49ers to multiple rings, he'll be in the conversation as well. The vast majority of players make it in the hall of "very good," but the 49ers legitimately have a few who could be enshrined with the best of all time.
