Two Positions the Packers Still Need to Address

The Green Bay Packers’ roster is set for Week 1 of the 2026 season. However, with concerns at several positions, upgrades may be necessary.

Running Back

On September 10, Josh Jacobs reached a deal with Brown County after pleading no contest to misdemeanor battery and property damage following a domestic dispute with his girlfriend back in May. According to an NFL statement via ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there is “no timetable” for a decision on discipline, and no change in the 28-year-old’s “status.”

With that in mind, the Packers move forward with a largely inexperienced backfield. MarShawn Lloyd is likely to get the first shot at carrying the load, with Chris Brooks and Kaleb Johnson waiting in the wings.

Injuries have limited Lloyd to just one game since being selected in the third round by the Packers in the 2024 NFL Draft. Brooks earned only 27 carries for 106 yards in 2025 for Green Bay, while Johnson, acquired in an August trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers only a year after being drafted in the third round, joins the roster having posted 69 yards on 28 attempts last season.

If Lloyd fails to break out, and Jacobs’ suspension is lengthy, the Packers may have no choice but to look for help elsewhere.

Offensive Line

The Packers’ offensive line experienced more downs than ups in 2025. This season, they face similar challenges, with several linemen nursing injuries at the start of the season and uncertainty at other positions.

The status of both left guard Aaron Banks and right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele is still up in the air for Week 1. Banks is dealing with knee tendinitis, which limited him in camp, and Bako-Bewele is still rehabbing from offseason surgery.

Right guard Anthony Belton has seemingly lost his starting role to 2024 fifth-round pick Jacob Monk, who has started only one meaningless Week 18 game over two seasons. Plus, 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan will get a chance to prove himself as the starter at left tackle, replacing the underwhelming Rasheed Walker.

With so many unknowns, many expect another rough season for the offensive line. Brandon Thorn of “Establish the Run” ranked the Green Bay line 29th out of 32 teams.

The Packers are likely stuck with the group they have now, as finding an upgrade may prove difficult. However, it’d be wise to keep looking.
