Two Under-the-Radar Dolphins That Are Making Waves

Training camp is in full swing for all the teams. The Dolphins have a full roster of players battling day in and day out for their futures in the league. Two players in particular have been making splash plays from the beginning of OTAs. Neither is a flashy name, and both are on veteran minimum deals.

Miami’s linebacker corps is by far the most talented and rounded part of the team. Plenty of draft picks such as Jacob Rodriguez and high-end talent like Jordyn Brooks make it a feared group for any team they face. Surprisingly, a late addition from free agency has been amazing both in coverage and in the run game during the offseason program.

Former Jaguars safety Ronnie Harrison was a late converter to linebacker after he fizzled out at the safety position. His size and experience in pass coverage made him a useful project for teams in the past. Miami had signed him on March 27th, but he quickly got buried on the depth chart after the NFL Draft.

Regardless of the situation he was put in, Harrison has been one of the most impressive players on the field according to Miami Dolphins reporters. Their official Dolphins account has also posted numerous clips of Harrison making plays in coverage and during shell scrimmages. You couldn’t ask for anything more from a depth piece like Harrison, who is quickly showing what he is worth in the league.

Aside from Malik Willis, the new regime is trying to take pop shots at players who may be able to make an impact cheaply.

Tight end Ben Sims is an example of that. He was signed to the team on March 17th, a familiar face for this regime that has been heavily saturated by former Green Bay Packers staff and personnel.

Sims is a 26-year-old who has spent the better part of 3 years with the Packers and has recently been a standout at all offseason camps. The selection of tight end Will Kacmarek in the 2026 draft pushed Sims down the depth chart, as both are bigger targets who excel primarily in the blocking game.

Yet, Sims has been a reliable target for quarterback Malik Willis in camp thus far. The combination of size and reliable hands has pushed Sims to be one of the main players in the Dolphins’ offense, especially with the lack of experience at the wide receiver position. Drops from that group have also reportedly been an issue, so having Sims play at a high level is huge for this team.

Football is a business, and at the end of the day, nobody is guaranteed a spot on the roster. Ronnie Harrison and Ben Sims have been two guys who will not be backed into a corner or pushed down the depth chart. Look for them to be big players in the preseason as they fight for a chance to make the 2026 Miami Dolphins roster.
