Tyrann Mathieu suggests Bears, Saints, 49ers as possible landing spots for Deshaun Watson

Deshaun Watson is reportedly considering requesting a trade from the Houston Texans and Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu has some potential landing spots for his former teammate. Mathieu suggested the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers as teams that should be pursuing Watson if he becomes available.

Ignoring any financial implications, all three teams are intriguing landing spots for Watson, as they could all arguably use an upgrade at quarterback. While the Saints still have Drew Brees, he is not getting any younger and has missed time each of the last two seasons. But this may be the least likely option of the three, as the team seems to believe in Taysom Hill and would likely give him a chance if Brees retires.

The Bears made the playoffs thanks to some late-season heroics from Mitch Trubisky, but few would argue that Watson would be anything but a massive upgrade over Trubisky or Nick Foles. As for the 49ers, Jimmy Garoppolo is a solid but not spectacular starting quarterback.

As for the Texans, they are probably just hoping these rumors are nothing more than Watson trying to make sure they get their franchise back on track. The Texans looked like a rising franchise at the end of last year, having reached the postseason in back-to-back years. But Bill O'Brien inexplicably traded DeAndre Hopkins, then was fired a few games into the season. Things got so dire that J.J. Watt apologized to Watson at the end of the season for Houston wasting one of his years.
