Tyreek Hill caught on viral video with record-scratch comment regarding head coach Mike McDaniel

Two things are sure about Miami Dolphins superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill: he wants the ball in his hands, and you never know what nugget might come out of his mouth at any given time.

Those two certainties intersected in a viral video clip that's circulating where Hill appears to be on a party bus with a group of people.  It's not clear what question or comment prompted the response, but Hill says that at one point last season, he wanted to knock out Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel

"I remember one game I wanted to knock out Coach McDaniel," Hill said.  One passenger asked why, and Hill responded, "because he wasn't throwing me the ball, bro."  Someone inquired if he meant Mike McDaniel, and Hill responded, "yeah, like, knock out our coach."

Hill has proven to be in Miami, if nothing else, completely unpredictable, both on the field and in the public eye off of it. Hill largely managed to stay out of the public light for the wrong reasons in his first two seasons with Miami in 2022 and 2023.

His play on the field also appeared to warrant the draft capital they gave to Kansas City in March 2022 when they traded for the electric wideout - first, second, and fourth round picks in 2022 and fourth and sixth round picks in 2023.  Hill posted back-to-back 170+ target, 119 catches, and 1700+ yard receiving seasons and led the league in receiving yards (1799) and receiving touchdowns (13) in 2023.

However, 2024 was a nightmare for both the Dolphins' offense and Hill.  Tua Tagovailoa's injured reserve stint after suffering a Week 2 concussion against Buffalo devastated the Miami passing game, and Hill suffered as a result, posting just 81 catches on 123 targets for 959 yards and 6 touchdowns.

His usage also left a lot of folks scratching heads, as the McDaniel didn't find alternate ways to get the ball in Hill's hands often enough - be it through direct snaps, end arounds, screens, etc.  Or at least not at the level that Hill, who made waves with his postgame complaints after the 32-20 season-ending loss to the Jets, found to be acceptable.

Hill's temperament is certainly something to watch for the rest of the year, and it appears as though McDaniel will need to find a way to fix his passing game to keep his superstar satisfied enough.  And perhaps in 2025, that will involve feeding him the ball more.
