Tyreek Hill receives notable snub from his Dolphins teammates

Tyreek Hill’s Miami Dolphins teammates snubbed him from an honor he has consistently received since joining the team in 2022.

The Dolphins announced their 2025 team captains on Monday, and Hill was not among the six players selected. That marks the first time since Hill’s acquisition in 2022 that he has not been voted a captain by his teammates.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was the most high-profile name selected as a captain, with guard Aaron Brewer and fullback Alec Ingold the other two chosen to represent the offense.

While not directly addressing Hill’s non-selection as captain, coach Mike McDaniel indicated that the team vote was very unified, and players rewarded teammates who had “earned it.”

“We were focused on giving the keys to captaincy to guys that had earned it each and every day. That’s what speaks to me the most is a football team that knows who it wants to be led by,” McDaniel said, via Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.

Hill had a tumultuous offseason after essentially quitting on the team during the final game of last season. He eventually apologized and backed off a trade demand, but it was very clear that the whole affair left his relationships with some teammates strained.

The outcome likely will not come as a surprise to Hill, who said himself that he had a lot of work to do in order to deserve the honor of being a captain. That work will have to continue.

Hill had two huge seasons upon joining the Dolphins. He caught 119 passes for 1,710 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2022, which was his first season with Miami. In 2023, he caught 119 passes for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns. But last season, Hill’s stats dropped down to 81 catches for 959 yards and 6 touchdowns in 17 games as the Dolphins dealt with poor quarterback play when Tagovailoa was unavailable.
