Undrafted rookie Brandon Wright to kick for Jaguars vs. Dolphins

Jacksonville Jaguars undrafted placekicker Brandon Wright won't have long to prepare for his official NFL debut.

The Jaguars confirmed on Wednesday that the club has activated Wright to the main roster and placed first-string kicker Josh Lambo on injured reserve with an injury to his left hip.

Lambo has been with the Jaguars since the fall of 2017. He made all three of his field-goal attempts and hit on six of seven extra points over Jacksonville's first two games of the season.

The Jaguars will now turn to Wright, who played his college ball at Georgia State, to replace Lambo for Thursday's home game against the Miami Dolphins.

Per a rule change for the 2020 season, a player on IR must miss a minimum of three games before he is eligible to return to action. Following Thursday evening, the Jaguars will next play against the Cincinnati Bengals on Oct. 4, meaning the club theoretically would have time to find a suitable replacement for Lambo if Wright struggles in his pro prime-time debut.
