Unflattering report emerges about Jalen Ramsey’s Dolphins tenure

The Miami Dolphins traded cornerback Jalen Ramsey last week, but some new claims suggest that the move was a long time coming.

Miami Sun-Sentinel sports columnist Dave Hyde wrote this week that Ramsey had worn out his welcome with the Dolphins thanks to some controversial behavior over the past few years. Hyde claims that Ramsey was regularly late to practices, and would at times show up while the rest of the team was already stretching.

In addition, Ramsey was accused of undermining former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in 2023, and supposedly did the same to coach Mike McDaniel in 2024 “in a manner that spread like a bad odor through the larger team.”

Interestingly, the Dolphins signed Ramsey to a big new contract while all this was going on. At that point, they clearly felt that either Ramsey was not a big problem, or that the issues were worth putting up with to keep his high-level play. The frustration with Fangio was not much of a secret at that point, though by that point, the defensive coordinator had left the organization.

Ramsey was ultimately traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who got former Dolphins DB Minkah Fitzpatrick back in return. There were some signals that the Los Angeles Rams were motivated to move on from Ramsey in 2023, so one could argue this is becoming a trend.
