Jalen Hurts’ developing health issue has took the league by storm over the last couple of days as the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback looks set to miss the remainder of the season.
It was revealed over the weekend that Hurts has been suffering with blood clots in his lungs following an initial diagnosis in his calf. The Eagles’ quarterback is now to undergo blood thinning treatment in an effort to treat his health scare.
A lot of questions are being asked about how the Eagles have handled this whole ordeal as Hurts was allowed to play in London two weeks ago despite being advised against sleeping due to the blood clot in his leg.
Former Eagles centre Jason Kelce knows the medical team back in Philadelphia extremely well and even he is demanding answers from the organisation after seeing the man he used to protect suffer such a horrific scare.
Kelce spent his entire career in Philadelphia so he will know the people behind the decision to allow Hurts to play at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But he does not believe they are at fault.
“Doctors were involved in this. Literally, I get why everybody wants these answers, because something clearly happened. It went from the calf to the lungs, and everybody wants to know how this happened. This is scary, man. This could be life-threatening issues. Thankfully, he is safe, and it seems like everything is going to be okay, but it is concerning,” Kelce said on ESPN’s coverage of Monday Night Football.
“I will say, I know these people very personally. I’ve been assessed by these doctors in Philadelphia. I do not believe that they would send him out there. I think that they followed the protocol that they thought was the best to follow. Now maybe retroactively they learned something in this. I don’t know about all that, but I do know these guys and the way they operate. I do believe that they’re trying. I think that this is the protocol that was set up in place for this superficial clot, or wherever it started, and how it got developed. It’s just incredibly unfortunate.”
Ultimately, there will be someone to blame for Hurts’ developing issue as his situation has been made considerably worse by being allowed to play in London. There will also be questions over why he was allowed to fly back with the team given the risks involved in air travel.
Although Kelce does admit he is confident the Eagles’ medical team will have followed the right protocol, it is also apparent that even he wants to know how this was allowed to happen to the QB.
