Whispers about the New York Giants possibly reuniting with Odell Beckham Jr. continue to hover over the franchise after the Giants did not spend a first- or second-round pick on a wide receiver during the 2026 NFL Draft.
Beckham previously played under Giants head coach John Harbaugh when the two were with the Baltimore Ravens during the 2023 season. On Tuesday, Giants reporter Dan Duggan of The Athletic noted that "Harbaugh has fond feelings toward Beckham from their season together in Baltimore."
However, that doesn't necessarily mean that Harbaugh is ready to hand Beckham a roster spot this spring.
"Harbaugh said he will speak to Beckham on Tuesday night to reevaluate the circumstances," Duggan explained. "The hunch here is that no signing happens this week."
Fair or not, the perception exists that the version of Beckham who earned three Pro Bowl nods while playing for the Giants from 2014 through the 2018 season no longer exists. He now has a concerning injury history and hasn't played in an NFL regular-season game since December 2024. Additionally, he will turn 34 years old this coming November.
That said, Beckham reportedly "looked quite good" and "ran well" during a workout with the Giants that took place before the draft. Nevertheless, Duggan is among those who aren't convinced Big Blue has a spot on the roster for a past-his-prime talent who could cause an "unintended circus" for the team during training camp.
"The Giants must consider if it’s worth the potential distraction of adding such a polarizing player, who last played in 2024 when he had nine catches in nine games for the Dolphins," Duggan added about Beckham. "The Giants’ receiver depth chart features Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin and third-round pick Malachi Fields. There also could be a receiver spot reserved for a returner, like Gunner Olszewski, or a special teamer, like Beaux Collins. The odds are against Beckham making the roster since he’d be a depth receiver with no special teams value. If the Giants don’t have a clear vision for a role for Beckham — say, 15-20 snaps per game as the No. 4 receiver — they must weigh if the juice is worth the squeeze in signing him."
There's no indication any other team is in a rush to sign Beckham before mandatory minicamp practices get underway later this spring. Unless that changes, Harbaugh and Co. likely won't need to make a final decision about Beckham anytime soon.
