Veteran NFL center Daniel Kilgore retires

Veteran NFL center Daniel Kilgore won't be signing with any team ahead of the start of the preseason.

On Monday, Kilgore took to social media to officially announce his retirement after 10 pro seasons:

Kilgore entered the league when the San Francisco 49ers selected him in the fifth round of the 2011 draft and, per Pro-Football-Reference , started in 39 regular-season games with San Francisco before he joined the Miami Dolphins via a trade in March 2018. He spent two years with Miami and then signed with the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of the 2020 campaign.

Kilgore made headlines when he nearly missed the Super Bowl LV matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in February because of COVID-19 protocols after he was deemed a high-risk close contact because he received a haircut from a barber who ultimately tested positive for the virus. He was cleared to play the Saturday before the Super Bowl.
