Veteran WR Cole Beasley could make debut with Buccaneers Sunday

Finding themselves decimated by injuries at wide receiver this week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed veteran Cole Beasley, adding him to their practice squad.

Ahead of Week 3's matchup with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, the Buccaneers have already ruled out Chris Godwin with a hamstring injury, while several others remain questionable. With Pro Bowler Mike Evans also out this week, serving a one-game suspension, Tampa Bay may have no choice but to turn to the newly acquired Beasley.

On Friday, when asked if Beasley could potentially suit up on Sunday, head coach Todd Bowles said, "I think he could."

"He's quick, catches up to speed real fast," Bowles told Greg Auman of The Athletic. "He understands the system and he's played and gotten a lot of reps under him."

Beasley, 33, played 16 games for the Bills last season, matching a career-best 82 receptions for 693 yards and a touchdown.

A 10-year-veteran, Beasley admitted to reporters this week that he's been wanting to play with Tom Brady for "a long time." It looks like Sunday may be his best chance yet.

"We're trying to get him caught up on the system, the wording, everything — where he'll need to be, if he's needed," Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich said. "We're just trying to get everyone ready."

While Godwin is already listed as out for Sunday, the status of Russell Gage and Julio Jones is still uncertain. Gage, dealing with a hamstring injury, did not participate in practice Friday. Meanwhile, Jones was a limited participant, nursing a knee injury.
