Victim In RB Josh Jacobs’ Case Requests Sealed Evidence

In the original complaint, the victim was identified as “ANM” by the police writing the report, keeping her name anonymous. The complaint described an incident in which Jacobs reportedly grabbed ANM and threw her to the ground. Since that original report, Jacobs moved his hearing up and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property. The courts convicted him on battery, fining him $1,000, but agreed to a deferred judgement agreement on the criminal damage to property charge.

Next on the docket for Jacobs seemed to be the NFL’s investigation and decision on a potential extension, which usually occurs after the legal proceedings have concluded. Previous reports have detailed how the league attempted to review a video whose contents are described in the original complaint, but the court has barred the league from accessing it, temporarily sealing it last Thursday. If the victim’s motion to permanently seal the evidence and discovery materials is successful, it could prevent the NFL from ever accessing the video footage.

Jacobs has been on the exempt/commissioner’s list since the end of August, unable to practice or play with the team. He has reportedly been “ordered to have no contact with the victim, pay restitution, attend counseling, and be under supervision for one year.” The victim’s attorneys claimed that, after Jacobs took responsibility for his actions by pleading no contest, the victim simply wants to protect her privacy. Any games Jacobs misses on the exempt/commissioner’s list will count against whatever suspension the league eventually decides on.
