J.J. McCarthy made his return as the Minnesota Vikings ended a two-game losing streak, jumping to 4-4 on the 2025 NFL season after a 27-24 win on the road over Jared Goff and NFC North rival Detroit Lions in Week 9. Now, the Vikings will turn their attention to Week 10, heading back to Minnesota to face the Baltimore Ravens.
McCarthy began the season as the Vikings’ starting quarterback after missing all of 2024 with a torn meniscus. The former Michigan star led his team to a Week 1 win in his NFL debut, but the following week, he suffered a high ankle sprain that sidelined him for the next five games. Carson Wentz filled in during McCarthy’s absence but underwent season-ending shoulder surgery after Week 8.
Still, despite missing numerous games, McCarthy looked solid in his return, completing 14-of-25 passes for 143 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, adding another 12 yards and a score on the ground.
In doing so, McCarthy entered a league of his own, becoming the only player in NFL history to record two or more touchdown passes and at least one rushing touchdown in two of his first three career games. He also accomplished the feat in the Week 1 win over the Chicago Bears, finishing with 143 passing yards, two touchdown passes, and one rushing score.

McCarthy and the Vikings will now look to get back above .500 in Week 10 when the Ravens come to town on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
