Vikings have difficult challenge vs. Eagles, and it could boil down to what version of Jalen Hurts we see on Sunday
Caean Couto-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Vikings are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon. It's only the second noon game the Vikings have played in this season, with four of their first five games being played in standalone windows.

Both teams are dealing with their own crises right now at the quarterback position. Jalen Hurts has struggled mightily one year after winning the Super Bowl, and it's been a big reason why the Eagles have lost their last two. On the other side of the field, the Vikings are either going to start J.J. McCarthy or Carson Wentz, with both players still working their way back from injuries.

What do the Vikings need to keep an eye on with the Eagles? I spoke with our Eagles beat writer at A to Z Sports, Kelsey Kramer, to get the lowdown on the team from Philly.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Philadelphia Eagles preview

Jalen Hurts has struggled this season. How much of that is on him vs. having another new offensive coordinator?

Jalen Hurts has been taking the blame for the Eagles’ offensive struggles, but he doesn’t deserve to be. The Eagles currently rank 29th in passing, 25th in rushing, and 27th on third-downs. It’s a little confusing because the offensive playbook and Super Bowl-winning roster are nearly identical to last year, but the difference is that Kevin Patullo is calling the shots. However, they don’t seem to be the right ones, according to Lane Johnson. But if you ask Jordan Mailata, it’s everyone’s fault for not doing their “f——g” job. It’s clearly a mixture of a lot of things that all come down to communication issues, and that boils down to head coach and offensive “CEO” Nick Sirianni.

If Quinyon Mitchell doesn’t play on Sunday, how bad will it be at cornerback?

Quinyon Mitchell has practiced all week at some capacity, which is great news for the Eagles’ secondary room. However, there’s no doubt that his hamstring injury from last week will linger with him if he does play on Sunday. He won’t be fully healthy, and/or he won’t be able to play the entire game, if at all. That means the Eagles will be forced to rely on their backups, Kelee Ringo and Adoree Jackson, which is far from a pretty sight. Ringo is a liability out there, and Jackson isn’t consistent enough to hold things down the way Mitchell does. The Vikings will have their way in the passing game if that’s the case.

Give us your final score prediction

This is a tough matchup to predict only because the Eagles just lost to the New York Giants, and it’s hard to say what offense is going to show up against Minnesota. I think it will come down to how they spent their mini bye-week and whether or not Nick Sirianni was able to get everyone on the same page. But if the Eagles can get their run game going and Jalen Hurts picks up on the blitz like he did against the Bucs, they’ll pull it off. 31-27
