The Minnesota Vikings wrapped up mandatory minicamp on June 11 and are now enjoying a short break until the start of training camp. While the dates for training camp have been unknown throughout the offseason, the franchise has revealed exactly when fans can expect Minnesota to begin training camp.

On the Vikings’ website, the organization announced that August 1 will be the first official day of training camp. The team will partake in training camp, as well as several activities with fans through Thursday, August 20.

Additionally, the Vikings are scheduled for joint practices with the Baltimore Ravens on August 19 and 20. Minnesota will have preseason games against the New York Giants (August 15), Ravens (August 22), and Denver Broncos (August 28). The first game of the regular season will kick off on September 13 against the Green Bay Packers.

While the club prepares for the upcoming campaign, there is one camp battle the fanbase is paying attention to. That’s the position battle between quarterbacks Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy.

Justin Jefferson has shared his early takes about both Murray and McCarthy. The 26-year-old wide receiver believes Murray will pick up the offense in no time, while McCarthy has shown improvement as a touch passer. Head coach Kevin O’Connell has claimed he will name the starter in due time. Training camp will give him a better look at both players running his offense.

The Vikings are coming off a frustrating 9-8 season that could have been much more successful with more efficient quarterback play. Minnesota will hope for Kyler Murray or JJ McCarthy to prove themselves worthy of being a legitimate starter in the 2026-27 campaign.
